You’ve asked for a campaign. Here’s what we’d like to work through with you first.

Your brief is clear. You need a campaign, you have a timeline, and you know roughly what you want it to say. We are not going to tell you that is the wrong thing to want.

What we would like to do, before we get the creative, is ask four questions. Not to slow things down. Because the answers will determine whether your brand communication service actually delivers what the business needs, not just what the brief asked for.

What does your brand mean, right now?

Not your tagline. Not your positioning document from three years ago. What is the one thing your brand stands for that no competitor can reasonably claim? This is the question chlorophyll’s ideantityโ„ข framework is built to answer, and it is the question a campaign brief tends to skip because everyone assumes someone else has already settled it. In our experience, they usually have not.

A campaign built on an unsettled brand meaning produces communication that performs in isolation and accumulates into nothing. Each execution is fine. The brand does not grow.

What is your brand entitled to say?

There are things your brand can say with credibility that another brand in your category cannot, and vice versa. This is not a legal question, it is a strategic one. The claim that earns trust from your audience is the one that flows from what your brand actually is, not from what the brief wishes it were.

We will want to spend time here. It is where most campaigns are won or lost before a single word of creative brand communication is written.

    How does your brand sound?

If you have ten pieces of your brand’s communication in front of you and cover the logo on each one, would they read as coming from the same place? In most organisations, the honest answer is no. Not because the work is bad, but because the voice tends to drift when it has not been codified. Every writer, every agency, every well-meaning internal stakeholder brings their own register.

Before we brief ourselves, we want to agree on what your brand sounds like when it is being itself.

What does the business actually need said this year?

This is the question that connects the campaign to something real. Not what the brand wants to communicate in the abstract, but what the business needs the market to understand, believe, or do differently. The campaigns we are most proud of, across clients in BFSI, healthcare, and consumer are the ones where this question had a specific answer.

What happens when we work through these first

The creative brand communication brief we write after these four questions is a fundamentally different document from the one we would write without them. It is more specific. It gives creative people a sharper problem to solve. And it produces communication that does not just run, but stays, because it is unmistakably yours.

A brand communication service worth engaging does not begin with executions. It begins with the questions that make executions matter. See how we have approached this with clients like Indigo and Atomberg

We are not asking you to delay the campaign. We are asking for the time it takes to make sure the campaign does what you actually need it to do.
